Hero's Announces Tryout Dates for 2009 Season; On-line Registration Available; New Locations Announced

2011 team: Saturday, December 6, 2008 and Sunday, December 7, 2008 beginning at 10:00 am and ending between 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm
2012 team: Saturday, December 6, 2008 and Sunday, December 7, 2008 beginning at 10:00 am and ending between 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm
2013 team: Saturday, December 6, 2008 and Sunday, December 7, 2008 beginning at 12:30 pm and ending between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm
2014/2015 team: Saturday, December 6, 2008 and Sunday, December 7, 2008 beginning at 12:30 pm and ending between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm
Location of tryouts on Saturday, December 6, 2008: Fields 5 and 6 at Rockburn Branch Park East Area, which is located at 5400 Landing Road (also known as 6105 Rockburn Branch Park Road), Elkridge, Howard County, Maryland
Location of tryouts on Sunday, December 7, 2008: Fields 4 and 5 at Western Regional Park, which is located at 14800 Carrs Mill Road, Woodbine, Howard County, Maryland
Directions to Rokburn Branch Park from Route 70: Take Route 29 South to Route 100 East toward Glen Burnie and go approximately 4 miles. Take the exit for Route 103 and go through the roundabout. Continue on Route 103/Meadow Ridge Road and pass through the next roundabout. At the first traffic light, turn right onto Montgomery Road and proceed straight approximately 1.8 miles. Make a left turn onto Landing Road and go approximately 3/4 miles to the partk entrance on the left.
Direction to Western Regional Park from Route 70: Take Exit 76 for Route 97 and turn left onto Route 97 South toward Olney. Follow Route 97 South approximately 1.9 miles. Turn right onto Carrs Mill Road and go approximately 0.5 miles to the park.
THESE DIRECTIONS ARE TAKEN FROM AN ON-LINE MAP SOURCE. IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA, PLEASE DO A REALITY CHECK AND CONSULT A MAP TO CONFIRM THE DRIVING DIRECTIONS.
If a player is unable to attend the scheduled tryouts due to extenuating circumstances (such as a mandatory school sponsored event, etc.), the player may contact the head coach of the team she wishes to try out for and request an alternate tryout date. It is within the coach's discretion whether to give a player an alternate tryout date. Any request for an alternate tryout date must be made prior to the tryout dates set forth above.
All tryouts will be outdoors on turf fields. Please dress appropriately and wear either cleats or turf shoes. Bring your stick, mouthguard, goggles and water. Goalies must bring their own equipment.
Any girl lacrosse player who is currently in grades 6 through 10 and is a member of U.S. Lacrosse is eligible to try out for a Hero's team. If you are not a U.S. Lacrosse member, click here to fill out an on-line membership application. Hero's does not base decisions regarding team selection or playing time on a girl's school, geographical location or prior club affiliation. Selections are made by the program's coaches based on athletic ability, speed, agility, stick skills and scrimmage play. Decisions of the coaches are final.

Hero's 2009 Wins Vail Lacrosse Shootout

Hero's 2009 won the Vail Lacrosse Shootout by defeating M&D 2009 Black in the championship game and TLC in the semifinals. Hero's 2009 is the sixth Hero's team to win the event in the past ten years. To see a photo of the champsionship team, click here.

Hero's congratulates the Hero's 2008 team on its many successes and achievements over the past five years. The team finished with a 153-11-5 record and outscored its opponents 1,220 to 385. Six Named to Tewaaraton Watch List
Hero's congratulates the six members of the Hero's 2009 team who are on the Tewaaraton Award Foundation's 5th Annual Baltimore/Washington High School Watch List: Kristy Black (Glenelg), Jessica Nonn (Catonsville), Sarah Parks (Centennial), Iliana Sanza (St. Paul's School for Girls), Katie Schwarzmann (Century) and Mary Teeters (Centennial). Madalyn Jamison (Hero's 2007) Named CAA Rookie of the Week Two Weeks in a Row
On February 25 and March 3, Madalyn Jamison (Westminster 2007, Hero's 2007) was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week. Madalyn, a freshman attacker/midfielder for the George Mason Patriots, scored the game-winning goal with less than three minutes remaining in the game to lead her team to an 11-10 upset of then 9th ranked Johns Hopkins in the Patriots' season opener on February 23. Four days later, Madalyn scored two goals on three shots against then 9th ranked Georgetown in a 14-7 loss. She followed that with a goal in the Patriots' 11-5 win over Virginia Tech. In her first three games as a Patriot, Madalyn has five goals on eight shots, three ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover. HEROS Alumni and Coach Selected for National Teams
Kelly Berger (2003), Becky Clipp (2003), Lauren Schwarzmann (2004) Lindsay Lewis (2002) and Jess Roguski (Heros 2010 Coach) were recently selected to be members of the US National Women's Lacrosse Teams. Kelly and Jess were selected to the Elite team, Becky, Lauren and Lindsay to the Developmental team. For more information please see this website.

HEROS 2010 Hosts Cateram School team from England
Heros 2010 recently hosted players from the Cateram School from England. Stories about this visit from our lacrosse friends across the ocean and the generous hosting by our Heros 2010 team can be found in articles in the Sun Paper, Eldersburg Eagle and Carroll County Times. HEROS 2008 Captures Top of the Bay and takes 2nd in Inaugural IWLCA Champion's Cup at Downingtown
Heros Tournament Lacrosse Club's 2008 team had an outstanding finish in the inaugural girl's high school lacrosse IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association) Champions Cup tournament held in Downingtown, Pennsylvania June 15 through 17. The collegiate coach sponsored IWLCA Champions Cup represents the single largest college recruiting tournament of the summer. The team finished 2nd out of 72 teams entered in the Rising Senior tournament. In initial round robin play Heros 2008 went undefeated. In the quarter finals Heros 2008 defeated M&D 2008 Black. In the semi-finals Heros 2008 beat South Jersey Select 2008 before losing narrowly to the Long Island based Yellow Jackets in the finals. Heros Tournament Lacrosse Club's 2008 team won their division the previous weekend at the Top of the Bay tournament held at John Carroll High School.

HEROS Players Selected for All Carroll County and All Piedmont Honors
Madalyn Jamison (Heros 2007), Steph Deisher (Heros 2008), Katie Schwarzmann (Heros 2009) were selected All County for Carroll County.
Meaghan Conlon (Heros 2008), Steph Deisher (Heros 2008), Britt Vieira (Heros 2008) were selected All Conference for the Piedmont Conference.
Ashley Stodter (2007) was selected All-County player of the year by the Montgomery County Gazette.
HEROS Players Selected for Washington Post All-Met
Ashley Stodter (2007), Kristy Black and Sarah Parks (Heros 2008) were selected as second team All-Met for the Washington Post. Corcoran Downey (Heros 2007), Alayna Markwordt (Heros 2008), and Mary Teeters (Heros 2008) were selected All-Met Honorable Mention.
Kristy Black, Corcoran Downey, Alayna Markwordt, Sarah Parks, and Mary Teeters were also selected to the Washington Post All Howard County team.
